Frequently Asked Questions

Q?
Whats the most expensive callcard ever?
A.
A question asked regularly and a hard question to answer. A lot of Collectors love to collect variations of a particular card (sometimes caused by a manufacturing error of misprint). These can sometimes be very rare. In relation to a general production Callcard, the hardest to find (and hence its value) is trial Card IMI Conference 1989 50 Unit (1020). This Callcard is one of the rarest, mainly because it is believed that most of them were distroyed!
Q?
whats the most common Callcard ever?
A.
Over 4 million of the "Irish Horse Racing" (1033) Callcard were produced. Following that, over 2 million of the "Cottage" (1024) Callcard were produced. In third place was the "Niamh from Tir na Nog" (1228) Callcard with over 1.5 million produced.
Q?
The Design a Callcard winners... where are they now?
A.
Those very talented men and women are still out there. Keep reading our regular blogs to read our interviews with them.
Q?
How can I easily manage my collection?
A.
Over the coming months, we hope to expand by developing a "My Collection' area, where you can login and manage your own personal Callcard Collection. You will be able to filter by what cards you have yet to find and quantities of each card you have. Please check back to see updates on this feature.
Q?
How much are my Callcards worth?
A.
During the late 90's, the value of Callcards were at their peak. Such an example is one of our Blog writers, who had spent a thousand IR Pounds on 2 IMI 1989 Callcard. Like most things during the recession, the value of Callcards has declined. We at callcards.ie hope to help promote this great hobby and maintain those great memories we all have of using & collecting Callcards, for generations to come.
Q?
Whatever happened to the Callcard Collectors Club?
A.
With the advent of Mobile Phones and the decline in payphones, Callcards are no longer available. As a result, the Callcard Collectors Club closed (check out our Blog for more information). The last Callcard was produced in 2003 (1322) and following that, a large Cardphones were decommisioned throughout Ireland, due to the increasing popularity in Mobile Phones. A lot of Cardphone booths now function as Eircom Wi-Fi Hotspots.

how can I help out?
A.
Without the help and support of Callcard Collectors and Entusiasts, this site would not exist. There will always be someone out there who will have information that we haven't come across. We encourage anyone who has any information to contact us and share with the community. We also accept donations in the form of Callcards and donations. We are a not for profit site, so all we look for is enough finance to cover hosting costs. Everything after that is donated to Irish Heart and Stroke Charity Croi (www.croi.ie)
